Welcome one and all to another #TuneUpThursdays track release day!!! And we are at the official halfway point of the year! Thanks to everyone for keeping up with me so far!
This week's track is really special to me. This boy band has been my main influence throughout my high school years. Their sound, their soul, their harmonies is something that I've always aspired to duplicate.
Here's a little story about the track as well. When I first joined choir in grade 8 at Moscrop Secondary, I was a little freaked out I was the only grade 8 guy in choir (at first), and I had never sung SATB before. When Carrie Taylor first asked for my voice type, as far as I knew, I was still a soprano. Slowly but surely, I found my place within Carrie's choir ranks.
As I got more comfortable with the Moscrop choir, I got inspired by my all time favourite group: Boyz II Men. Their cover of this week's song was acapella, and so hauntingly beautiful. I went straight to work transcribing the piece, hoping that Carrie would let the choir sing my arrangement of the piece.
I painstakingly listened on my cassette tape for hours and hours, transcribing the song note for note, rhythm for rhythm, and run for run. I even made my own manuscript because I didn't know that actual manuscript paper was available at my disposal.
In the end, we never ended up performing the song. I think Carrie realized that the piece was too difficult, and a choir setting was probably not right for the piece either.
When I started this Tune-Up Thursdays project, I was waiting for a chance to do this finally by myself. And do it properly. This one is for all the people from my Moscrop Concert Choir days way back when in 1995/96.
Please enjoy my cover of Boyz II Men's "Yesterday"!
And as always, if you like what you hear, please share with your friends and family.
Side note: I love to collaborate!!! If you'd like to record a Tune-Up Thursdays track with me, just drop me a line at
Aerhyn.Lau@gmail.com and we'll work on something together to record! Or if you have an acapella arrangement of a song you've been working on, please share it with me and I'll do a recording of it! Or, if you have a song request, message me and I'll try my best to make it happen!
See you next week!!!
