Blink of an eye, and we're already into June. I'm almost a year and a half into #TuneUpThursdays, and this Thursday is no different.
This week's track was inspired by a little bit of sad news the world of acapella received a few weeks ago.
I think it's safe to say that acapella fans worldwide were floored by the news we received. However, at least for me, I completely understand why it happened.
It was announced by Avi Kaplan, the beautifully voiced bass/overtone singer from the acapella giant #Pentatonix, that after all previously announced engagements, he will be stepping back from PTX.
This made me sad, because I believe that the backbone of almost all of the Pentatonix songs are the strong bass line and drum beats from Avi & Kevin voice boxes.
I'm very lucky that I was able to meet Avi and the rest of the PTX team when I went to their concert at the Vogue in 2013, and was able to grill his brain about singing.
I wish him all the best in his break from Pentatonix, and await the next great musical thing that he'll end up doing.
Thank you Avi for your musicality and your contribution to bringing acapella singing back to the forefront of the music industry!
I have covered many a PTX song, and as long as they keep making music, I will keep covering their beautiful arrangements.
Please enjoy my cover of the PTX version of John Lennon's "Imagine".
And as always, if you like what you hear, please share with your friends and family.
Side note: I love to collaborate!!! If you'd like to record a Tune-Up Thursdays track with me, just drop me a line at
Aerhyn.Lau@gmail.com and we'll work on something together to record! Or if you have an acapella arrangement of a song you've been working on, please share it with me and I'll do a recording of it! Or, if you have a song request, message me and I'll try my best to make it happen!
See you next week!!!
