Welcome to Tune-Up Thursdays, my 2016 venture to record and share a song cover recorded by me!
As many of you may, or may not know, I've been singing in the same choir for the past 25 1/2 years. I owe all of my voice training to the Bach Family of Choirs. Aside from family, it's the one constant I have in my life, that I can totally depend on to be there.
I met my best friend Richard because of choir. I've gotten closer with my brothers because of choir. I've traveled through Europe because of choir.
I've become a well rounded musical performer because of choir. I've a solid network of friends because of choir, and our shared love of good classic music.
Growing up in the Bach Children's Chorus though, there was always one dread: Age-ing out of the Children's Choir organization and having to move on up to the Adult Bach Choir. That is, until Bruce Pullan decided that we should keep growing with what we had. First it was the creation of an all girls chamber choir named "Anna Magdalena".
Then, we boys felt it was unfair that there was no all men chamber choir, so we had one started of our own. We had trouble finding a significant name like "Anna Magdalena" (she was Bach's wife), so we used "Sine Nomine" (latin for "Without a Name") as a placeholder name...and it stuck.
Then, around 2008, Bruce realized that there were a handful of former singers that were no longer a part of the Children's/Youth Choir organization, weren't part of the Adult choir, but still loved to sing. So he started "Sarabande", an acapella 20-ish piece chamber choir for those of us who wanted to do high level acapella choral music, but didn't want to move on to the Adult Choir.
One of the staples of our annual Spring Concert in March, is the portion of the concert where soloists or small groups get to perform a little musical ditty of their own. My brothers Jonathan & Anders, my best friend Richard, and our good friend Chris made a habit of getting together with some powerful piece of men's acapella to perform. Since last year's song choice needed a 6th voice, we added Andy's brother-in-law Jeremy to the mix, and last year we were dubbed "Laus and Change".
And that's the song I've got for you in Week two of Tune-Up Thursdays! It's an acapella cover of the Traditional Irish Folk Tune "Danny Boy", arranged by Eclipse.
And as always, if you like what you hear, please share with your friends and family.
Side note: I love to collaborate!!! If you'd like to record a Tune-Up Thursdays track with me, just drop me a line at
