Welcome everybody to the first #TuneUpThursdays offering of August.
This month isn't a theme per se...but a set of songs, already pre-determined by it's composer/arranger.
It's a piece that I've been wanting to feature on Tune-Up Thursdays for a long while now. But a lot of different things had to line up for me to be able to bring this set of pieces to you all, the most important was a month that had 5 Thursdays in it.
I first discovered the Birthday Madrigals by John Rutter when the Vancouver Bach Youth Choir received this book of modern day madrigals set to music. If I remember correctly, I think we might've been the first choir in BC to get the books.
Eventually, over the years, Bruce Pullan had us do every piece from it, and I think we even performed it as a full set once.
Please enjoy the first of the Birthday Madrigals by John Rutter: "It Was A Lover And His Lass".
And as always, if you like what you hear, please share with your friends and family.
Side note: I love to collaborate!!! If you'd like to record a Tune-Up Thursdays track with me, just drop me a line at
Aerhyn.Lau@gmail.com and we'll work on something together to record!
If you have an acapella arrangement of a song you've been working on, please share it with me and i'll do a recording of it!
Song requests or ideas for my monthly themes? Message me on Facebook or e-mail me at

I'll try my best to keep uploading #WindBackWednesday tracks, but keep up with me next week to hear song number 2 from John Rutter's "Birthday Madrigals".
